Timing is everything with music and photography. If your timing is off with music, you could throw the rest of the band off. If your not in the right place at the right time, you could miss that stellar shot that could catapult you to the top. Steel Bridge Songfest is no different. Friday night, my timing was a little off. Steel Bridge schedules were off or moved too as expected trying to juggle 100′s of musicians. That can’t be an easy task, but it didn’t take away from the great music that was to be had.
We started off the night out at Beach Harbor Resort to try and catch skumbaag. They were two bands away and we wanted to get back to Sturg to catch the plethora of music happening there, so we missed them. The Form was playing tho and they were good and funky with a horn to boot. It was very pleasant out by the camp fire on the beach overlooking Sturgeon Bay and the shipyards. Off to Kitty’s we went. Once there, the band was not playing so a snugged up to the bar with my friends Carrie and Taylor. I was looking forward to this ever since I got to Sturg the night before. One of my favorite drinks is Strongbow Cider and Kitty O’Reileys has it on TAP! No one else even has it in bottles. We had great fun as I enjoyed my pint. By the time I headed up to the front to get some pic’s, the band had finished. They were great! as a bunch of others described to me. Missed the shot!
Off to the Red Room! Chris Aaron with a bunch of friends were wailing when we pulled up. Got in there and rocked it out for a while. After a bit, I wandered over to the Ladder House where the All Star Jam was going on. Lots of fun there too.
I was feeling a little more bluesy tho so I jumped back over to see Chris at the Red Room. The rumor on the street was that Pat Mac and Eric McFadden were up next over at Butch’s. Over there I shot to wait as they were setting up. I got antsy and had to get out of the bar so back to The Red Room. Chris finished up his set so back to the street and out of the bar for some fresh air.
Butch’s was packed! I couldn’t even get into the place and didn’t want to force my way thru the crowd and get in every ones way to take some pictures, Out to the street. I like the window street view. The music sounded great out there and it wasn’t too loud that you couldn’t talk to someone if you wanted. The air was not filled with smoke either so breathing was better. Two other photographers were pinned up on the front, so I didn’t need to get the same shot as them either, so I got mine thru the window. What another night of fun, time to take it to the Bridge.
